Air Quality alongside motorways

Air Quality Innovation Programme
The Dutch Air Quality Innovation Programme was established in March 2005 to generate knowledge on local transport and traffic measures to improve air quality alongside motorways (nitrogen oxides and particulates). By the end of 2009 the Air Quality Innovation Programme  will provide recommendations for  implementation and policy, including the potential benefits and drawbacks of different mitigation measures.

Five years of air quality research have yielded a vast amount of knowledge on both the impact of several mitigation measures, as well as suitable air quality measuring methods.
On November 25th and 26th 2009 the Air Quality Innovation Programme will present the results of  five years of research at a dedicated international conference in Rotterdam - The Netherlands.

Projects
The following projects will be reported:
- The effects of (optimised) noise barriers measured at a test site
- The effects of roadside vegetation measured at two test sites
- The effects of road surface cleaning, tested at two sites
- The effects of canopies and air treatment
including the measurement of an electrostatic concept in a tunnel
- The effects of Catalytic coatings tested both in the laboratory and at a test site
- The effects of dynamic traffic management and air quality forecasts

The Air Quality Programme was initiated by two Dutch ministeries: Transport, Public Works & Water Management and Housing, Spatial Planning & the Environment.
The programme has been carried out by Rijkswaterstaat (Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management).

Unique pilot studies
Research at unique large scale test sites along motorways was a key element in studying the effectiveness of several air quality measures.

Poster Session
To encourage a lively debate, participants are invited to bring a poster or other information about their air quality related project to the conference. .

If you are intend to bring a poster please send the document before November 1st to clugtmeijer@carlsonwagonlit.nl.
The posters will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Does the poster deliver a message related to air quality?
- Is the content understandable?
- Do the text and graphics convey the poster’s theme?
- Is the font size of the text appropriate to the message? Is it easily readable?
- Does the poster attract attention?
- Is the poster not bigger than A2 format?
